LL District Opens Thursday
The District Four Little League Tournament will begin tonight in Hazard for two area teams. Corbin, the winner of Area Two, will begin play from the winners’ bracket against Harlan Friday at 8 p.m. Pulaski County and Middlesboro are also in the top bracket and will play at 6 p.m.
Williamsburg must begin its quest for a district championship from the losers’ bracket. They will play South London Thursday at 6 p.m.
Corbin won the Area Two Tournament at North London, beating North Laurel 8-0 and South London 15-0. Coach Burley Foley’s team was led by Travis Smith, Vin Hoover, Jared Barton, and son, Brady Foley in the first two games.
Williamsburg meanwhile lost its first Area Three Tournament game to eventual champion, Middlesboro 8-5, then came back to beat Jellico, Knox County and Pineville-Bell to gain a spot in the District Tournament.
The schedule for the tournament matches the Williamsburg-South London winner against the loser of the Corbin-Harlan game on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Rockcastle-Hazard winner will play the loser of the Pulaski County-Middlesboro game at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The winners’ bracket finals will be played Sunday at 2 p.m.
