Dr. Pepper spotted Davis Salvage a 4-1 lead after one inning of play then stormed back to take a 14-7 win and remain in second place in the Corbin Little League standings with a 9-6 record Monday night at Rotary Park.
Zack Sanders led the charge for Dr. Pepper, going four for four with seven RBI’s on a single, two doubles and a home run while scoring three runs in the victory.
Sanders got Dr. Pepper on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning with a one-out single. He stole second and third before a John Mark Cushman pitch hit Cory Ledington. A passed ball allowed Sanders to score the first run of the game.
Davis Salvage answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning for a 4-1 lead. Cushman led off with a triple and tried to score on a passed ball but was picked off at the plate. A pair of walks to Matthew Hart and Zack Ingle got a rally started for Davis Salvage. Hart stole second and third, getting into scoring position. Chase Estep picked up an RBI as his single sent Hart home for the tying run. Tyler Gregory followed with a two-run single as Davis Salvage grabbed a 3-1 lead. Gregory scored on a passed ball for the fourth run of the inning.
The lead didn’t last long as Ethan Wilson hit a one-out single to left field. Singles by Malachi Saunders, Brady Farris and Austin O’Neal got things rolling for Dr. Pepper. O’Neal had a two-run single to center field. When Farris crossed the plate the game was tied at 4-4.
Sanders double pushed O’Neal home for the go-ahead run. Ledington followed with a RBI single to score. Sanders and Ledington scored on a base hit by Brent Harvey for a 7-4 lead.
Harvey, on the mound for Dr. Pepper, struck out two Davis Salvage hitters in the bottom of the second and allowed only one runner on base.
In the top of the third, Dr. Pepper added five more runs, taking a 12-4 lead in the game. The big hit was a bases loaded inside the park home run by Sanders.
Davis Salvage cut the lead to 12-7 in the bottom of the inning when Cole Brock, Chase Estep and Ryan VanNorstran all scored. They had two runners shot down at the plate trying to score on passed balls.
Dr. Pepper added two more runs in the final inning for the final margin of victory.
Hometown Bank 10, State Farm 8: Hometown Bank scored six runs in the top of the first inning but had to withstand a rally by State Farm to take third place in the standings Monday night.
Colby Lacefield, Trevor Hill, Peyton Buford, Kenton Fredrick, Timmy McHargue and Trevor Eagle all scored for the eventual winners.
Tanner Barnes added a run in the top of the fourth and Fredrick scored his second run of the game in the fifth as Hometown Bank took an 8-1 lead in the game.
However, in the bottom of the fifth State Farm rallied. Austin Withrow drew a walk then scored on a Kendall Jackson double. Jackson scored on a John Bridges base hit. Before the inning was over Bridges crossed home plate and State Farm was within 8-5.
Hometown Bank added two runs that proved to be the difference in the game in the top of the sixth inning. Dustyn Sams led off with a base hit. Barnes followed with a hit to score Sams. Barnes scored on a sacrifice fly by Trevor Hill to put Hometown Bank ahead 10-5.
In the home half of the sixth, State Farm rallied for the win.
Walks to Kendall Jackson, Jacob McCoy and Tucker Jewell loaded the bases. Dalton Withrow pushed a run across the plate with a single and a walk to John-Austin Childers sent McCoy home. When Jewell scored, State Farm was within two with runners and first and second.
Peyton Buford struck out Hunter Logan to get out of the inning as Hometown Bank got the narrow win and upped its season record to 6-8. State Farm fell to 5-10.
