Lily man in fair condition following Wednesday night stabbing
A Lily man is in fair condition at the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he is recovering from stab wounds to his head, back and arm that were allegedly inflicted by his neighbor Wednesday night.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said deputies are continuing to investigate the circumstances behind the argument between Russell Hibbard, 27, of Lily and Jason Hallock, 22, also of Lily that ended with Hallock being airlifted to UK where he is being treated for the stab wounds.
Acciardo said deputies responded to a complaint of a stabbing on Park Street, which is east of U.S. 25, off of Rita Lane, about 10 p.m.
They found Hallock with five stab wounds from a knife in his back, the back of his head and under his arm.
"We are still investigating to determine what they were arguing about and what kind of know was used, Acciardo said
We don’t know if Hallock was armed," he added.
Deputies took statements from multiple witnesses at the scene. Acciardo added that there is no history of a dispute between the neighbors that has required deputies to intervene in the past. However, it is possible that alcohol was a factor in the incident.
Detective Sgt. Tommy Johnston is continuing the investigation. No arrest has been made in the case.
Acciardo said Johnston will present the case to a Laurel County Grand Jury at its next meeting in August to determine whether criminal charges are warranted.
Assisting on the investigation was Det. Daryl Zanet, Senior Sgt Greg Poynter, deputies Brett Reeves, Shawn Boroviak, and Robbie Grimes.
