Lily crash claims one life

A Lily man died Thursday from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 25 in Laurel County.

One person was killed during a two-vehicle crash in Lily Thursday evening.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, identified the deceased as Richard McFadden, 62, who was pronounced dead at St. Joseph London.

The wreck occurred just after 5 p.m. at the intersection with south Fairston Road.

Acciardo stated that a Jeep in which McFadden was a passenger, was traveling south on U.S. 25 when a Mitsubishi SUV traveling north attempted to make a left turn onto Fairston Road, pulling into the Jeep’s path.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, identified as Jonathan L. Anderson, 38, of Williamsburg, was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Officials at UK said Friday that Anderson is listed in serious condition.

The driver and front-seat passenger in the Jeep, identified as Shonda K. Vanover, 43, of Corbin, and Barbara A Lisowe, 69, of Lily, respectively, were each transported by personal vehicle to Baptist Health Corbin for treatment.

U.S. 25 was closed to traffic for more than two hours as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene

Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards and Deputy Travis Napier are continuing the investigation.

Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, Lily Volunteer Fire Department, London Laurel Rescue Squad, PHI helicopter and the state highway department assisted at the scene.
