Lily boy dies three days after being struck by train

A 12-year-old died Monday from injuries sustained when he was struck by a train in southern Laurel County Friday night.

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies firefighters and emergency personnel were called to the scene off of Robinson Creek Road at approximately 8:35 p.m.

During the investigation into the accident we learned the juvenile became missing from his residence earlier that evening. Family members and neighbors were searching for him when the accident occurred,” said Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer.

Acciardo said the juvenile was walking north along the tracks when he was struck by the southbound train.

Members of the community said they knew that an autistic child had been reported missing and learned later that a child matching the description had been struck by a train.

The victim was treated at the scene and then airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Lily firefighters, London–Laurel County Rescue Squad and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County responded to the scene.
