To the Editor:
As the Williamsburg Independent School PRIDE Coordinator I would like to thank the following personnel for making 2009 PRIDE Clean-up effort such a HUGE success!
First, I want to thank Mayor Roddy Harrison, Superintendent Denny Byrd and the school administration for allowing all the students to give up a day of textbook learning in exchange for citizenship and participating in Project PRIDE. Thank you Williamsburg Indpendent School faculty and staff for their guidance, professionalism and over-the-top enthusiasm for the project. Thank you Williamsburg Education Association for purchasing gloves for every student and first aid supplies for each class. There are several individuals that need to be commended for being traffic monitors. Gary and Mary Ann Stanfill, Jack Stanfill, Board Member Roger Faulkner, Verlin and Steve Perkins, Danny Davenport and Emily Davenport monitored traffic throughout busy streets to keep students safe.
Finally, and most importantly, I must commend the students of our school. For hours students throughout our senior class weathered a cool 52 degree, windy day to pick up 504 bags of garbage. These students made me so PROUD because of their hard work ethic! The great news of this clean-up effort was the NOT ONCE appliance was found, only 78 tires were collected and a total of 762 volunteers participated.
Congressman Hal Roger’s PRIDE project certainly is another Tradition of Excellence for Williamsburg City School.

To the Editor:
Each day as we turn the TV on it seems the news only gets worse. We sit and scratch our head and wonder why. The answer seems to be so obvious. We’ve forsaken God. When we began to take Him out of most everything we do, we began a downward spiral, which now seems to have no end. The Christian people never intentionally let this happen but the enemy slowly crept in and robbed our nation of the very foundation on which it was created — God!
It seems that which is wrong is now accepted as right and that we the God fearing people of this country just don’t know what is best for us or how to run our nation! As God looked through the span of time, He surely must have seen just where we would be today and left us the answer in His great word, The Holy Bible. I was given this poem several months ago, but recently was inspired to share it with this nation. May God bless America again!

As I look around this world that seems oh so lost,
I know how Jesus must feel as he looks from
coast to coast.
For we’ve taken him out of most public
things we do
And surely we’ve foresaken him in
most of our schools
Our businesses are run on financial plans you see
And never do we bow to seek God on our knee
Oh yes, we go to church to keep our obligation
But when we are there do we pray for our nation?
Our lands are parched and dry as
we wait for rain
And we never take the time to ask
for mercy once again
We are worried about our food, our houses
and our gas
Our Social Security and if our retirement
plan will last
But God who loves us all always shows the way
Just open up your Bible get on your knees
and pray
The answer you will find in the words
he left for us
For the people of this nation whom he loves so very much!
Second Chronicles: Chapter Seven – Verse 14:
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land
