Letter to the Editor: Corbin Lions Club needs support for Christmas Basket program
To the Editor:
The members of the Corbin Lions Club is are conducting our 70th consecutive year of providing food baskets to local families during the Christmas season. Beginning with five baskets in 1949, we have delivered hundreds of baskets each year. Both Lions Club members and volunteers deliver these baskets on Christmas Eve.
Each basket consists of enough food for a wonderful Christmas meal with plenty of leftovers. There are fresh fruit, fresh produce, canned vegetables, flour, Pepsi, bread, canned ham, breakfast foods, and more.
Sign-ups for food baskets will be held on Nov. 29 and 30 (Thurs. and Fri.) from 9 am to 2 pm at the McBurney Center, 409 Barbourville St. Recipients must reside within about five miles of Corbin and bring identification, proof of income, and proof of expenses.
To purchase about 250 baskets, we have set a monetary goal of $15,000.00. This goal can only be met with the generosity of community members and businesses. Donations are used for our Christmas basket program; however, if donations exceed the need, we also support other food programs such as meals through Corbin Senior Citizens and the Corbin Backpack Program. We want you to be assured that your money is used responsibly.
This year we are recording donations according to the following plateaus: $1,000 is a platinum donation, $500 is a gold donation, $250 is a silver donation, and $100 is a bronze donation.
Thank you for your consideration. If you have any questions, please contact President Mike Pawula by email at CorbinLionsClub@gmail.com. You can send your donations to Corbin Lions Club, P.O. Box 365, Corbin, KY 40702-0365. May God richly bless you
Mike Pawula, President,
