The Laurel County Sheriff’s Department is warning area residents of a phone scam in which the caller informs the individual that they have won, “Publishers Clearing House.”
According to the sheriff’s office, the caller is telling individuals that they have won $4.5 million but before they can receive the prize, they must get a Visa card for $499 and are given a phone number to call after doing so.
Deputies advise anyone receiving such a call to hang up.
