Laurel deputies arrest eight on drug-related charges Monday
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Special Response Unit arrested eight individuals on drug-related charges Monday morning, including one wanted in Florida on charges of selling/delivery of morphine.
Sheriff John Root along with the SRU under the command of Major Rodney Van Zant, arrested, 52-year-old Theodore Napier of Corbin, 38-year-old Roger Waggoner of Corbin, 42-year-old Ingram Caulk of Corbin, 28-year-old Joshua Matthews of Corbin, 38-year-old Amy Smallwood of London, 32-year-old Hershel Bowling, Jr. of London, 34-year-old Rachel Doan of London, and 37-year-old Carrie Hurd of Richmond.
Root and his deputies set out about 6 a.m. based on information received through citizen complaints.
At a residence off of Locust Grove Road, deputies encountered Bowling, whom deputies had learned was wanted out of Florida for allegedly selling/delivering morphine.
Napier, who had two outstanding for failing to appear in court in Knox and Laurel Counties, was also arrested. A third suspect, identified as Amy Smallwood, was also arrested for failure to appear in court in Knox County.
Root and his deputies proceeded to a motel in southern Laurel County investigate a drug complaint in one of the motel rooms.
Deputies arrested Matthews Waggoner each on one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Doan was charged failure to appear in court in Laurel County on charges of theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting, operating a motor vehicle under the influence and numerous other traffic violations.
As the investigation continued, deputies reported located two other individuals in a different motel room.
The first, identified as Ingram Caulk, was found to be a convicted felon in possession of a 9 mm pistol. Caulk was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of drug paraphernalia after deputies reportedly found two methamphetamine pipes in his possession.
Deputies also found a female in the room, later identified as Hurd, reportedly had in her possession a white powder residue inside her nose and a straw used for snorting narcotics.
When questioned about it, Hurd told deputies the powder was her makeup powder.
Hurd was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
