Lady’s Version – Cumberland Falls Invitational
The Cumberland Falls Invitational got underway tonight but it wasn’t the usual format that fans were used to. It was the first-ever girls’ version. Different teams, same format!
The Corbin Lady Redhounds won their opening game over the Ladt ‘Cats of Pendleton County, 52-37. They will play Jackson County, Sunday at 2:45. Jackson County defeated Louisville Fairdale in the first game of the.
Kelci Jones and Lyndsay Champlin led Corbin to the win over Pendleton County. Jones had 15 points while Champlin added 13 points. While Jones got most of her points around the basket, Champlin hit from all over the court.
It looked like Corbin was going to win this one with ease after running out to a 25-4 lead. But, late in the second quarter, Corbin went scoreless for the last three minutes and was outscored 6-0. Pendleton County never seem to wake up in the first half and trailed, 28-12 at the half.
Corbin was pretty consisent scoring in double figures three of the four quarters. The Lady Redhounds pushed the lead out to twenty, 41-21 by the end of the quarter. Jones had six points, Champlin five and Kendra Igo had two in the quarter.
Pendleton County woke up in the fourth quarter and gave Corbin a battle. They cut the lead to 12 with three minutes to go with a 12-6 run. However, Corbin weathered the storm and won by 15 points.
