LADY TIGERS CLAW ‘CATS
The Clay County Lady Tigers rolled past the Lynn Camp Lady Cats in the first-round of the 13th Region Basketball Tournament at the Arena Tuesday night. The Lady Tigers scored the first 10 points of the game enroute to a 14-6 lead at the first stop.
Chelsea Grubb scored the only six points of the first quarter for the Lady Cats.
In the second quarter it was all Clay County as the Lady Tigers scored 20 unanswered points, taking a 36-6 lead before Lynn Camp got on the scoreboard late in the quarter.
Clay County Coach James Burchell unloaded his bench in the second half. Clay County went on to outscore Lynn Camp 14-11 and led 50-19 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Tigers’ reserves had trouble scoring in the fourth quarter and Lynn Camp went on a 11-0 run led by Seirra Shepherd. Clay County scored its only basket with less than a minute to go in the game, Erica Allen scored for the Lady Tigers.
Sabrina Smith led the Lady Tigers with 20 points on 9-of-11 from the field. Shepherd scored nine points to lead the Lady Wildcats. Lynn Camp closed out the season with a 7-17 record.
Clay County (25-6) will advance to Friday’s semifinal against the South Laurel Lady Cardinals or the Bell County Lady Kats.
