Lady Hounds soccer pulls off comeback win in state tourney
The 13th Region champion Corbin Lady Hounds soccer team traveled to Madison Southern High School Tuesday night to face off with the 14th Region champions, Estill County, in the first round of the 2015 KHSAA state championship tournament.
Corbin was down 2-0 with only 21 minutes remaining in the game, but goals by Sarah Fryer and Nikki Wells tied the game up and forced an overtime period. Fryer scored again in OT to give the Lady Hounds the 3-2 victory, improving their season record to 12-6-3 and advancing them to Saturday’s quarterfinal round of play.
“I’m really proud of the way the girls fought back,” said Corbin Head Coach Hannah Goins. “We started out a bit sluggish, but we were able to fight back and pull out the win. I’m very proud of the heart they showed tonight.”
The Lady Hounds will now face 11th Region champs Lexington Catholic (22-2-2) on Saturday, October 31. That game is scheduled to start at noon, and will be played at Henry Clay High School in Lexington.
