Lady ‘Hounds 11-1

After edging Woodford County on a last-second shot by senior Katie Akins, the Corbin Lady Redhounds went on to win the Farmers Bank Classic in Frankfort last week.
Corbin entered the tournament with one loss, a 53-48 defeat to #17 Notre Dame in the finals of the Northern Exposure Classic at Boone County.
Woodford County, the state’s #9 team was 10-0, led by all-state candidate Brittany Hinderlight.
Hinderlight led the Lady Yellow Jackets with 18 points but Corbin held Niki Bryant to just two points and Katy Cook to nine points.
The Lady Redhounds even had to overcome a horrible start when they trailed at the end of one quarter, 12-3. But things started to click in the second quarter when Corbin outscored Woodford County, 15-8 and close to within two at the half, 20-18.
Once Corbin discovered they could play with the Lady Jackets, they outscored Woodford 16-12 in the third period and led 34-32 going into the final frame.
Woodford County regained the lead and was trying to put the game away when they turned the ball over with seconds remaining. After a time-out Akins threw in a buzzer-beater to win the game.
Akins led the Lady Redhounds with 15 points. Heather Clouse added 10 points.
In the win over Letcher Central, Corbin ran out to a 18-9 lead in the first period and never trailed. The Lady Eagles mounted a rally in third quarter when they pulled to within 39-33.
Sophomore Mikkah Rogers had a season high 21 points in leading the Redhounds to the win.
It wasn’t much of a championship game as Corbin rolled out to a 23-5 lead over Madisonville in the finals then went on to win, 46-31. By half-time, this game was over as Corbin led 35-12.
Rogers led the Lady Redhounds in scoring with 14 points, Christina Sutton added 11 points.
Corbin will travel to Whitley County Friday night.
