LADY COLONELS FALL

After winning the first two games to start the season, the Whitley County Lady Colonels dropped a 42-31 decision to the South Laurel Lady Cardinals.
The Lady Cardinals jumped out to a 7-3 and was able to double the margin by the end of the quarter to 14-7.
South Laurel’s Morgan Johnson pushed the lead out to 11 before Whitley County rallied.
A free throw by Simbree Sizemore and basket by LeeAnna Moses cut the lead to 18-10.
Johnson helped her team double the score on the Lady Colonels at 20-10.
However, Whitley County went on a 10-3 run and closed the gap to three at the half, 23-20.
Down by eight (23-15), Sierra Anderson, Brittany Leech and Moses scored the final seven points of the quarter.
The third quarter proved to be disastrous for the Lady Colonels as they scored just one basket while South Laurel tossed in seven points for a 30-22 lead heading
The Lady Colonels forced South Laurel into 18 turnovers, but couldn’t take advantage from the field. Whitley County hit 12 of 37 from the field for 32.4 percent.
The Lady Colonels were six-of-14 from the line.
Moses led Whitley County in scoring with 11 points.
Lady Colonels’ coach Larry Anderson was honored before the game for this 400th win which came against McCreary Central last week.
