Lady Colonel Allison Jones signs with LWC soccer

On Monday, Whitley County Lady Colonel soccer player Allison Jones signed her letter of intent to play for the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders beginning next season.

When asked about the opportunity, Jones said, “Since the beginning of the school year Lindsey Wilson has been my top choice. I want to play on their soccer team, and I really like the school as well. I love the campus.”

When asked to reflect back on her time at Whitley, Jones said, “I will definitely miss the team, and all of the special times that we’ve had together. I have really grown and learned a lot while playing soccer here.”

LWC women’s soccer assistant coach Elisha Fry was present at Monday’s signing inside the WCHS library. She spoke on behalf of Head Coach Drew Burwash, saying, “Allison is a great student-athlete, and she is the type of player that we’re looking for at Lindsey Wilson College. She is a real athlete, and a hard worker. She wants to learn every time that she’s on the field. We think that she will be able to make an impact, and she should really help our team.”

When asked to speak about what Jones has meant to the Whitley County girls soccer program over the last four years, Lady Colonels Head Coach Kelly Sawyers said, “She is an amazing athlete in general, and she has been great at the forward position. Our team as a whole scored 38 goals during her senior season, and she was involved in 27 of those goals. She either scored the goal herself, or she provided the assist. That is just outstanding, and it is going to be really hard to replace her. We’re going to miss her a lot, but I think she is going to be a big asset to Lindsey Wilson.”

Jones is joining a Blue Raiders team that has enjoyed much success recently. In 2015, they went 20-2-2, winning their third consecutive Mid-South Conference championship and advancing all the way to the NAIA national title game, where they were defeated 3-0 by Spring Arbor (MI). LWC came into that game as the defending national champs.

In 2016, Jones and the Raiders will look to climb the mountain again, retain their MSC crown and make a return trip to the NAIA finals. Only this time, they will be hoping for another championship win.
