Gabby Sadler, a sophomore golfer for the Corbin Lady Redhounds had her best round of the year on Tuesday at Tri-match held at Tri-County Country Club. Gabby chipped in for birdie on her 8th hole to get to three over for the day. “She drove within 50 yards of the green on her last hole, second shot to approximately 40 feet and lipped out her par putt that would have given her a score under 40,” said Corbin Coach Guy Jones.
“Gabby has finally located her game that she had displayed the last several years. Early on she was struggling with her shots, chipping and putting,” said Jones. “We have really been concentrating on this area and she is gaining some confidence entering the final two weeks of the season.”
Whitley County won the match with a total team score of 186, placing four girls in the 40’s. Corbin was next with a team total of 201, followed by Barbourville with a 206 team total.
Next up for Corbin is a match at the site of the Regional Championship this year, General Burnside State Park golf course. Corbin will be facing defending champion for 2009, Russell Co. who has a powerhouse of a team and McCreary Central.
“This will be opportunity for us to play the course 10 days before regional and this will help prepare our girls,” said Jones. “Playing against a team of this caliber will be a real opportunity for our young players to see what it takes to compete in this region,” he added.
