Keavy man indicted for having sex with unconscious minor
A Keavy man was indicted on a rape charge in connection with a 2017 incident involving a minor child, who was allegedly unconscious at the time.
A Laurel County grand jury returned an indictment against Teddy Lynn Fox, 40, on charges of first-degree rape of a victim incapable of consent/physically helpless, custodial interference, second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor and second-degree persistent felony offender.
According to the indictment, Fox allegedly took the 14-year-old child from her guardian in April 2017.
Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies later located the juvenile at Fox’s residence, “under a bed and somewhat unresponsive.”
The juvenile was dressed only in a bra and shirt, which she told police were not hers.
The juvenile was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in London where a sexual assault kit was performed. She was then transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of an overdose.
Deputies received the results of the kit from the Kentucky State Police crime lab in December and arrested Fox on the rape charge in March.
“He was a suspect all along. We just needed more evidence,” said Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer.
Fox pleaded not guilty to the charges Thursday during his arraignment before Judge Michael O. Caperton in Laurel Circuit Court.
Fox is scheduled to appear in court on June 14 for a pretrial hearing.
Under Kentucky law, first-degree rape is a class B felony, carrying a potential prison sentence of 10 to 20 years.
