June 7 deadline approaching for school board candidates
If you are thinking about running for a school board seat this year, then you had better be getting your paperwork together and filed at the Whitley County Clerk’s Office.
Due to changes in state election laws, the deadline for filing for seats on the Whitley County Board of Education, the Williamsburg Independent Board of Education and the Corbin Independent Board of Education has been moved from August to June 7 at 4 p.m.
Two Whitley County Board of Education seats are on the ballot in November.
First-District board member Kenny Carr and Second-District board member Brenda S. Rose are both running for re-election and so far are unopposed.
On the Corbin Board of Education, two seats are up for election belonging to incumbents Kimberly Sasser Croley and Carcille Burchette.
So far, only Croley and Corbin businessman Paul Taylor have filed to run for office.
Three incumbent Williamsburg Independent Board of Education members have their seats up for election this year, including: Kim Williams, Roger Faulkner and Donnie Bruce Patrick.
Currently, only Williams has filed to seek re-election.
The filing deadline for the school board races is 4 p.m. next Tuesday at the Whitley County Clerk’s Office.
