June 4-10 declared National Garden Week in Corbin
The Corbin Garden Club has received recognition this week as Mayor Suzie Razmus declared June 4-10 as National Garden Club Week.

Mayor Suzie Razmus recently signed a proclamation declaring June 4 – 10, as National Garden Club Week in the City Of Corbin. Witnessing the signing are Carcille Burchette – South Atlantic Region Director of the National Garden Club; Laura Whitney Burchette – Director of the Mountain Laurel District of the Kentucky Garden Club; DeAnn Massey-Slater – Corbin Garden Club; Aileen Laws – Corbin Garden Club; and Lee Parks – President of the Corbin Garden Club.
The week-long acknowledgment celebrates their tireless efforts of giving back to their communities through various projects.
The Garden Club has been an instrumental part in beautifying the City of Corbin through the years. They installed the Monarch Butterfly Garden located at Sanders Park, which they plant and maintain every year. They have helped plant flowers in the pots on Main Street, at the Corbin Public Library and the Enginner Street Bridge.
Last year they had two Eagle Scouts plant flowerbeds at NIBROC Park and the Corbin Garden Club has furnished and planted flowers in both of the beds. They also help maintain beds and pots by weeding, pruning, fertilizing, etc.
The Corbin Garden Club has also engaged with Girl Scouts and held Earth Day events. One year, they furnished and planted a new redbud tree at the back of Sanders Park.
Corbin Tourism Director Maggy Monhollen highlighted the tremendous efforts that the Corbin Garden Club goes through to enhance our community.
“The Corbin Garden Club is a vital part of our community. National Garden Week is significant because this week is an opportunity to encourage pride in our community, interest new members, and work with other community groups to be part of those efforts. The Corbin Garden Club focuses on these efforts not just for this one week, but actually all year long,” said Monhollen.
The Garden Club’s commitment in preserving the city’s appearance makes Corbin a sustainable city that attracts visitors.
The community is encouraged to support the Garden Club and its members, who work tirelessly to keep Corbin looking its best.
