Judicial Center partially reopens for business with clerk’s office closed, one courtroom gutted
The Whitley County Judicial Center in Williamsburg (the new courthouse) is partially back open for business again following a recent third floor water leak that caused it to be completely shut down for a week and has seriously damaged portions of the building. The clerk’s office remains closed as does one district courtroom, while two other courtrooms remain operational.
Repairs are expected to take several months to complete.
Whitley Circuit Court Clerk Gary Barton said that he will have a better idea about the time frame for repairs and the cost of repairs after a meeting with contractors on Wednesday.
Barton said that starting this week, driver’s license testing will be done at his office in Corbin as court workers in his Williamsburg office can’t even get people inside their office to even register them for driver’s license testing right now.
