Jr. Redhound Theatre presenting ‘the Addams Family’ this week
If you were able to check out the Corbin High School Redhound Theatre’s recent production of the Little Mermaid and you were left wanting more on-stage entertainment, then you are in luck as the Corbin Middle School’s Junior Redhound Theatre is set to present their newest play, the Addams Family, this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 20-22.
The Addams Family is the story of an oddball family unit that is led by the husband-and-wife duo of Gomez and Morticia Addams. There is a son, Pugsley, a daughter, Wednesday, and of course, the bald-headed and fiendish-looking Uncle Fester. There is also an undead butler named Lurch, and a hairy creature with dark glasses who goes by the name of Cousin Itt.
The original Addams Family television show from the 1960’s is still beloved to this day, as are the many different adaptations that have been created over the years, including updated live-action movies and television series, animated features and series, and the smash hit show, Wednesday, that recently debuted on Netflix.
The Junior Redhound Theatre is excited to now be presenting their own version of the Addams Family, and director Brandise Grimes says that the response leading up to the play has been great.
“There has been an excitement buzzing through the school since it was announced that we were performing the Addams Family for our spring musical,” Grimes said. “This is largely due to the renewed popularity of the Addams Family as a result of the recent Netflix show, Wednesday, but we have also worked really hard to promote the show with some short, fun promo.”
“In the production, audiences can expect to see tributes to the 1960’s TV show and the movies from the 1990’s, as well as a fresh, new take on these characters.”
When asked about the plot of the play, Grimes said, “Wednesday Addams has fallen in love with a guy from a seemingly normal family. Wednesday tells her father about her relationship, but asks Gomez to keep it a secret from Morticia until she knows that the families can get along. Everything will change for the two families on the night that the Addamses host a dinner for Wednesday’s boyfriend and his ‘normal’ family.”
Grimes said that those coming to see the play this week should notice an improvement when it comes to sound quality, explaining, “We are so excited to announce that we have recently installed a brand new sound system with microphones that can be worn by the cast members, so audiences will be able to hear the Junior Redhound Theatre better than ever before.”
The Addams Family will be presented a 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 20-22, inside the gymnasium at Corbin Middle School. Tickets will be sold at the door, and will be $10 for adults, and $8 for students.
