Jerry Coleman Goode
Jerry Coleman Goode, 76, of Mason, OH, completed his earthly journey on March 19, 2018, after battling Alzheimers. The son of the late Robert and Dorothy Goode, he was born January 22, 1942, in Beaver Falls, PA.
Jerry began first grade in Lisbon, OH, when he was 4 years old.
He graduated from Williamsburg High School, Williamsburg, at sixteen. With a high school diploma and service in the Kentucky National Guards, he entered the US Marine Corps and served for 4 years. Upon leaving the Marines, he drove a taxi in Louisville, KY, worked at the Arizona State Prison and studied criminology at Mesa Community College. He relocated to the Cincinnati area and worked at Continental Can Company. He and Gwen married in 1970 and decided to move to Mason. Working as a guard at Lebanon Correctional Institutional, Jerry continued his education at Miami University in Oxford. Jerry joined the Mason Branch of the US Postal Service, and for 27 years was a dedicated letter carrier. After retiring from the post office in 2000, he worked for Child Nutrition Services for four years before settling into full retirement.
Jerry was a member of the National Association. of Letter Carriers, The American Legion, and The Mason United Methodist Church.
His sister Debra Goode also preceded him in death.
Jerry was the beloved husband of 47 years to Gwen Goode nee Renfro, cherished father of Robin (Jeff) Borke and Robert (Gretchen) Goode, and devoted grandfather of Ahna, Alicia and Olivia Borke of Liberty Township, OH; Emeline and Dashiell Goode of Milford, OH; sisters Brenda (Mearl) Chinn of Goshen, OH, and Wilma (Joe) Gamel of Amelia, OH; a brother James (Dawn) Goode of Palatka, FL; sister-in-law Mary Ann (Gary) Stanfill of Williamsburg; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends mourn his passing.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held Saturday, April 7 at Shorten and Ryan Funeral Home, 400 Reading Rd., Mason, OH with visitation beginning at 12 Noon followed by a service at 2 p.m. The family invites you to continue the celebration of Jerry’s life at the American Legion
Hall across the street at 401 Reading Rd.
