JAILHOUSE INTERVIEW: Daughter says mother to blame for her own death

Christy McFadden, the Corbin woman accused of complicity to the murder of her mother, told her version of how her mother’s death occurred in a jailhouse interview Tuesday.

Christy McFadden is charged with complicity to commit murder in her mother’s death.

McFadden and her husband, Joseph, were arrested in relation to the death of McFadden’s mother, Sherry Rose, who was reported missing on June 18, by her coworkers at Walmart.

Rose’s body was found at approximately 3:00 a.m. on June 19 in Clay County.

Christy and Joseph got married in Tennessee. His parents had given them a place to live.

Her mother, Sherry Rose, was crazy, Christy claimed.

Christy said her mother was constantly trying to hurt her and had knives hidden everywhere including water drains.

She claimed that when she went to jail last month, it was her mother’s fault and that she somehow had to have been behind all of it.

Christy was arrested May 11 and 25 in connection with separate incidents. After her first arrest on May 11 her mother posted bond so that she could be released from jail.

Christy claimed after a car accident earlier this year, “weird stuff had been happening.”

Christy claimed that during the time after she was released from jail prior to this period, her mother had, “smacked her and her child.” Christy says she has two children. She stated that the children are currently in Joseph’s mother’s care.

Christy claims that her mother had been keeping her children away from her for the past five to six months. She said that her mother even tried to make her, “sign away your rights to your unborn child because they aren’t going to let you keep it anyway.”

Christy said that she has tried to report the abuse but the problem before and the problem now is, “nobody literally believed me.”

Every time Christy and Joseph tried to leave the house, Christy’s mother became violent, Christy said.

On Friday, the day of her mother’s death, she explained that she and her husband were trying to leave once again.

When she told her mother that she was going to leave, her mother became angry and grabbed a steak knife out of nowhere and pinned her against the wall, Christy said. “She has knives everywhere. I don’t know where she got it from.”

Joseph tried to defend Christy, but ended up strangling Sherry. When Sherry started to pass out, Joseph let go, but Sherry fell on the knife she was holding, Christy said.

From there, Christy said that she and Joseph drove Sherry’s vehicle to the Hinkles’, family acquaintances, residence. The couple went there because Mike Hinkle had dated Sherry Rose. Christy said that Mike Hinkle was older than them and she thought he could give them good advice.

Mike Hinkle and his son, Cody, are charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence in connection with this case.

The Hinkles went and disposed of the body. The Hinkles told Christy and Joseph to burn down the house but they refused, Christy said.

“We never touched it [the corpse],” Christy said.

Police stated that the mother’s body had been transported in a suitcase in the back of the mother’s car by Christy and Joseph.

Christy contends that the police made up the suitcase and car thing. It didn’t happen because the Hinkles moved “it,” she added

Christy said, the Hinkles moved “it” from the house to Clay County where they disposed of the body. The Hinkles told Christy and Joseph to go get bleach, but they did not get the mops like the police said, stated Christy.

They also did get $500, but it wasn’t from her mother’s debit card, but a prepaid cash express card that Sherry had given her so that Christy could get them out of jail.

While the Hinkles were gone, Christy and Joseph walked to Cody Hinkle’s grandmother’s house. They then called a taxi to go to Cody’s mother’s house. Once at the house, they were discussing whether they should call the police when the police showed up. Christy said she tried to talk to the police officers and tell them that they should just ask questions like they were supposed to and then they would have known the truth. She said that she and her husband are innocent and being held for doing nothing wrong.

Christy said that she knows everything sounds crazy, but she is not crazy. Her mother, Christy said, was growing, “extremely poisonous pokeweed in rows underneath the house and was using it to poison me.”

Christy also stated that there are a large number of bones underneath the house.

She did not know what her mother was doing with all the bones, but Christy also found incense underneath the house.

Christy said that this is all a, “really, really bad situation.” She said that, “I loved my mother.”

“God rest my mother’s soul,” said Christy.

“We don’t believe her story,” said Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, public affairs officer for the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department. “We think this is a heinous crime.”

“Our guys did a great job of bringing the people to justice who deserved it,” said Acciardo.
