Jackie Beams Cox

Jackie Beams Cox, 85, of Castlewood Court, Somerset, formerly of Williamsburg, departed this life on Monday February 26, 2018 at his home.

He was born on April 13, 1932 in Williamsburg, to Burt Cox, Sr. and Bennie Beams Cox.

He was preceded in death by parents, Burt and Bennie Cox; and loving wife of 52 years, Phyllis Anna Hart Cox.

He was an active member of Jordan Baptist Church in Burnside. He accepted Jesus as Savior during his teen and was baptized at Main Street Baptist Church in Williamsburg.

He graduated Williamsburg High School in 1952, enlisted in U.S Airforce in 1952, retired after 20 years as Master Sergeant, and was a veteran of both, Korean and Vietnam Wars, receiving Presidential Accommodation and other service medals.

He also retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service. He was loved and loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren very much. He will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by four children, Jack Alan Cox (wife Yvonne) of Madison, AL, Robert Clyde Cox (wife Darlene) of Lexington, Mark Clay Cox (wife Teresa) of Somerset, and Audra Susan Collier (husband Charles) of Berea; nine grandchildren, Molly Griffee (Alex) of Lexington, Thomas Cox of Madison, AL, Aaron Baker (Hilary) of Elizabeth City, NC, Marlana Vaught (Kyle) of Somerset, Ben Collier (BillyAnna) of Corbin, Kevin Cox of Cookville, TN, Amanda Collier of Berea, Amelia Cox of Madison, AL, and Erica Collier of Berea; eleven great grandchildren; brother, Bert Cox (Joyce) of Somerset; two sisters, Norma Reeves (Larry) of Bristol, VA and Bettye McDaniel (Jim) of London; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.

The funeral service was held Saturday, March 3, at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Miller and Dennis Hart officiating.

Following the service he was laid to rest in the Wolf Creek Cemetery. Military graveside honors were conducted by the American Legion Post #88 of Corbin.
