Jacket Air Golf
The first Jacket Air Golf Scramble was held at the Williamsburg Golf Course Friday with nine teams playing to raise money for the Williamsburg End Zone Club. “The proceeds will be used for weights in the new athletic training facility at Williamsburg High School. “We raised $1,000 for the for the Williamsburg End Zone Club,” said organizer, Danny Davenport.
“A lot of different teams will use the new facility,” said football coach Jim Black. “It is something the entire school system can use.”
While the students will use the new weights, the 40 golfers on hand use their own set of irons to compete in the first scramble. The golfers battled 90+ temperature but had a fun day according to Davenport.
The team of Jason Vance, Ronnie Garland, Jimmy Dobson and Josh Dobson beat out eight other teams to win the scramble with a 18-hole score of 54. Second place was Ed Traveny, Bill Perkins, Carl Huddleston and John Davenport four shots back.
Third place went to Danny Davenport, Brian Hopkins, Ryan Prewitt and Keith Taylor.
Larry Sears had the longest drive of the day while Danny Davenport was the closest to the pin. Dennis Spurlock had the longest putt.
