It’s a little bit of radio, TV and newspaper rolled into one

It is not uncommon for a subscriber to the News Journal from a distant state to call us saying that they didn’t get a certain issue of the paper or that they only got one section or that it takes weeks to get there.

We mail it and then we depend on the U.S. Postal Service to deliver it. When it has to travel long distances problems can occur. In other words newspapers don’t get the respect that first class mail gets.

Thank goodness we don’t have this problem locally. We mail out thousands of copies of the paper every week and the good people at the post office see to it you get it without delay. But there is good news for those who are having a problem. Our entire newspaper is online at www.thenewsjournal.net For a limited time you can receive it free and decide for yourself if this will solve your problems with delivery. When you go to our Web Site you will see a red block at the top of the page, which after you click on it, will take you to our current issue.

The newspaper, in its entirety, will be available by noon every Wednesday. We are very excited about improvements being made to our Web Site. The current page is only temporary. Our new look is in the works. But already you will notice more videos appearing on our site. My background includes radio and television and this has given me an opportunity to use those skills. As McDonald’s would say, “I’m lovin’ it.”

It also provides us with the opportunity to report the news 24/7. While we will have more in-depth stories in our Wednesday edition of the paper, we will report the news on our Web Site when it happens. We will be your newspaper, radio station and television station rolled into one for local news.

We haven’t reached the point where the Internet has replaced the paper in newspapers, but it may happen some day. That day appears to be a long while off. Developments are being made and it stands to reason that you may be able to tune in the newspaper with sound and video no matter where you are, whether riding in a car or at your breakfast table. I won’t be around when that happens, so in the meantime we will do our best to satisfy the coverage of local news with this newspaper and the Internet. I do invite you to look at the online edition of the newspaper.

You can navigate to any story. It is simple to operate and it may be the way you want to receive the paper in the future.

* Looking below at Trent’s column, I am in full agreement with him that our First Amendment rights should never be threatened because of garbage dumps like Topix. I never look at the junk on it. At times somebody will call me and tell me about something they’ve seen there. Just the other day a caller told me that he read that I was moving to Lexington and was going to write a book about small town corruption. Hogwash!

You can’t believe what you read on message boards which allows cowardly contributors to pen their poison anonymously. I’ve been abused and slandered on these message boards but it doesn’t bother me because I don’t see it. The kind of character who resorts to this cowardly behavior doesn’t deserve my attention.
