Independence Day celebrations planned in Corbin on July 3, Williamsburg on July 4
If fireworks are your thing, then you will have the chance to see them in Corbin on Wednesday (July 3) and in Williamsburg on Thursday (July 4).
Corbin will hold its Independence Day celebration on Wednesday (July 3) at the Corbin Arena.
The event will take place from 7 – 10 p.m. and will feature a DJ dance party, inflatables, food trucks, and free gift bags for children.
There will also be a concert ticket giveaway for best patriotic costume.
Fireworks will be set off about 9:45 p.m.
Williamsburg festivities
Independence Day festivities will kick off at 11 a.m. Thursday (July 4) in Williamsburg, with the “Let Freedom Ring” bell ringing ceremony sponsored by the William-Whitley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Captain Charles Gatliff Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
The event will take place at Patriot Park on the campus of the University of the Cumberlands adjacent to a replica of the Liberty Bell.
It will feature patriotic music and will culminate with the ringing of a replica of the Liberty Bell to commemorate the Declaration of lndependence on July 4, 1776.
The bell will be rung 13 times, once each for the 13 original colonies, which later became the 13 original states.
Williamsburg festivities will culminate Thursday (July 4) at the Kentucky Splash Waterpark. There will be no entry charge to the waterpark after 7 p.m. on July 4.
The festivities will include a hot dog eating contest at 7:30 p.m. beside the gift
shop.
At 8 p.m., there will be a duck race with a $500 grand prize.
Numbered rubber ducks will be sold and entered into the race, i.e., will be dumped into the Lazy River and “race.” Ducks can be purchased at the admissions area and proceeds from that event will go to the Williamsburg Police Department Shop with
a Cop event.
Fireworks will take place about dark, and are sponsored this year by The Mint, the City of Williamsburg and the Williamsburg Tourism and Convention Commission.
