Iconic University of the Cumberlands viaduct replacement nearly finished
University of Cumberlands’ long-standing campus landmark—the old viaduct—may be no more, but a new, modern version of the iconic structure has emerged in its place.
The university announced late last year that the viaduct, which had been in place at the campus for more than 100 years, would be demolished following an assessment by structural engineers. Though the viaduct had received repairs in the past for a variety of issues, the last assessment indicated that the necessary repairs to keep the viaduct safe and operational would likely not be a good long-term solution.
