I-75 bridge near Corbin reduced to one lane due to structural concerns
A bridge along northbound I-75 located between mile markers 27 and 28 over Lynn Camp Creek will be reduced to one lane after Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials found a crack in one of the steel bridge girders during a routine check Wednesday.
Repairs will start immediately, leaving the bridge’s left lane closed until they are completed. Diverting traffic away from that side of the bridge will reduce weight on the affected beam.
Lisa Tolliver from the Kentucky Office of Public Affairs stated, “The right northbound lane will remain open to traffic. However, over-dimensional loads larger than 12 feet wide will be detoured. Also, all vehicles more than 80,000 pounds are being detoured. The detour is from Exit 25 at Corbin via U.S. 25W north to the Corbin Bypass KY 3041, north on U.S. 25E and then back on I-75 at Exit 29.”
The same bridge received a lane closure a few years ago when a similar problem was found in one of the support beams.
Tolliver added that proper signage would be used to make sure those traveling would be aware of the issue.
