HOWARD HEADED TO ASBURY
Whitley County senior Brittany Howard has signed to play volleyball for the Asbury College Lady Eagles.
Howard helped lead the Lady Colonels to a 29-29 mark the last two years with her highlight seeing Whitley County go to the 13th Region finals in 2008. They lost a thriller to Corbin in the championship game.
Howard was a News Journal All-County player the last two years as well and was selected to play in the Southeast Showcase in November.
“She was a great leader,” said Whitley County Coach Alicia Whitworth. “She is an excellent volleyball player. We’re definitely going to miss her.”
Assistant Coach Fawn Greer, who has worked with Howard in club volleyball as well said. “I’m very excited for her. She is going to a great school that is very good in their volleyball skills.”
“I’m sure she will learn more at Asbury,” said Greer. “I think she will be really good on defense. She will have to work on her speed and jumping but I think she will do well.”
Howard said a friend introduced her to the college. “I had been looking for somewhere to play, so I sent coach (JP) Rader an email and he asked me to come up for a practice. I practiced with them and he liked what he saw and offered me a chance to play.”
Howard will be practicing with the Lady Eagles throughout the spring to get ready for next season. “He wants me to come up on Saturdays and work out with the team,” Howard said.
