Hounds play their way back into region title game for second straight year
For the second straight year, the Corbin Redhounds have advanced to the championship game of the 13th Region tournament.
The Hounds, who are now 23-8 on the year, faced off against the Knox Central Panthers Saturday afternoon in the semifinal round of this year’s region tournament at the Corbin Arena. The boys in red made the most out of opportunities at the free throw line in order to secure a 68-56 win and advance to the tourney finals.
The Panthers found themselves in foul trouble early in Saturday’s contest, with big man Gavin Chadwell having to go to the bench with four fouls, including one technical, about midway through the second quarter. KC Head Coach Mitchell Madden would also have a technical called on him a few minutes later in the game.
In all, Corbin managed to score a total of 26 points in 38 attempts at the charity stripe. In comparison, Knox only managed 10 points in 15 attempts.
The Redhounds were led on the day by senior Zander Curry, who gave a gutsy performance and scored a game-high 21 points.
Corbin now waits to see who will emerge victorious from the day’s other semifinal round contest featuring the Clay County Tigers and the Harlan County Black Bears. That game is in progress at the time of this post.
The 2024 boys’ 13th Region championship game will be played Monday evening at 7 p.m. at the Corbin Arena. The girls’ championship featuring Corbin and North Laurel will be contested tonight. Check back later for coverage.
