Corbin junior Austin Combs fired a one-hitter in a 10-0 win over the Bell County Bobcats Wednesday afternoon at Don House Field.
The Bobcats, 11-12, never threatened in the game as the Redhounds dominated the action.
Combs struck out two of the first three batters he faced.
It was a slow started for the Redhounds (15-11) as Corbin left two runners stranded in the bottom of the first. Derek Terry got the first of an 11-hit attack going with two outs. After stealing second, Taylor Combs hit a single past the shortstop. Terry held at third on the play and Combs quickly stole second on the first pitch to Austin Combs.
Corbin came up empty when Austin struck out to end the inning.
The Bobcats got their lone hit of the game when (14) led off the inning with a blooper single over Andrew Jones at short. But, Combs retired the side and ended the inning.
Corbin got on the scoreboard in the second when Nick Vorbeck drew a walk. Vorbeck stole second and third then scored on a sacrifice by Jacob Metzger to right field.
The Redhounds took a big lead in the game in the bottom of the third when Corbin platted five runs on four hits and a Bell County error.
Kevin Goins started the offensive fireworks with a single over third. Corey Ledington reach base on a hard hit to third that was bobbled. Terry then loaded the bases for Taylor Combs.
Combs hit a two-run double to left center field as Corbin took a 3-0 lead. Combs went to third on the play then scored when his brother, Austin flew out to right field.
Vorbeck got the Redhounds going again with a single up the middle. Vorbeck stole second then went to third on a passed ball and scored on an Metzger sacrifice to right field as Corbin took a 6-0 lead.
Corbin put the game away in the bottom of the fourth with four runs. Goins and Ledington reached base on back-to-back singles then scored on Terry’s double to left center field.
Terry scored on a single by Taylor Combs. Austin Combs drew his second walk of the game and Vorbeck followed with a double to center field as the Redhounds upped the score to 9-0. With Austin Combs at third and Vorbeck at second, Metzger picked up this third RBI of the game when he flew out to center field and Combs scored on the tag.
For the game, Metzger had three RBI’s without a hit while the Redhounds had four as a team.
Corbin is scheduled to host Tates Creek Friday then play a double header Saturday against Bellevue and Wayne County.
