Hoopin’ It Up, and Whitley Co.
2008-12-21
My blog is a little late, I had planned it to do it last night, but three games took its toll on an old man.
I went to the Corbin-Covington Scott game last night that saw the Eagles dismantle the Redhounds, 66-53. Absolutely nothing would fall for the Redhounds. Corbin ran out to a 5-2 lead on a nice drive to the basket by senior Blake Hendrickson.
Scott came back to outscore Corbin 10-4 and took a 12-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The ‘Hounds came right back at the Eagles and outscored Scott, 12-3. Johnson had a three-point play and three pointer in the run while Lee Crawford hit a three and Josh Crawford had a tip-in.
Corbin had a seven-point lead in the final seconds but E.J. Murray hit two three pointers and closed the gap to one, 32-31.
Corbin didn’t appear to have its intensity level up for the second half. They came out and got a 40-37 lead with just over three minutes left, but failed to score a single point the rest of the quarter. They were behind 46-40 at the end of three.
Murray went wild in the final quarter, he scored at will, 8 of the first 12 points of the quarter. His basket with 4:15 left put the Eagles ahead 58-43.
Breathitt Co. 61, Williamsburg 59
Brethitt County may have a great football team, but they looked a little unorganized on the basketball floor, but maybe that was do to a long football season.
There were only six players listed on their roster. They have a monster of a player in Cody Moore, 6-5, 270-pounds. Looked more like 300+ to me. He was nearly unstoppable when he got the ball inside and he can play for a big guy. He had 17 points.
The Yellow Jackets looked good in the first half but let Moore take control of the game in the final minute. Williamsburg went from a 20-15 lead to 30-26 down when Steven Taylor got hurt.
Chad Terry came in and did a nice job. They trailed most of the quarter but came back to take a lead at the end of the third period, 42-39.
The game went down to the wire with Williamsburg having a chance to win it in the closing seconds. They were down five with 36 seconds left but made a real nice effort at the end.
Senior Aaron Cunningham had 21 points for Williamsburg.
Allen Co. 42, Whitley Co. 26
Whitley County girls continued to have some woes in the Cumberland Falls Invitational. They lost to a good Allen County team, 42-26.
Allen County jumped out to an 11-1 lead and never trailed. The Lady Colonels made a nice fourth quarter run to cut the lead to eight, but just couldn’t get any closer.
The final score was very misleading as they fouled a lot at the end.
Whitley County is going to surprise some people at the end of the year. They look like they are in preseason form right now.
