With Christmas just a week away and the schools closing their doors for the holidays, it’s time for basketball tournaments to get into full swing.
The tournament season starts Thursday night with the Bowman Classic at Lynn Camp where the Lady Wildcats and Wildcats will host six other teams.
The Lady Cats, who have not played since beating Letcher 56-20, December 3, will take on J. Frank White at 5:30 Thursday night. They are scheduled to play Riverside Christian Friday 9:30 and Pineville, Saturday at 6:15.
The Corbin Lady Redhounds, winners of two straight, will play in the Berea Holiday Classic. They will open Saturday night at 7 p.m. against 16th region power, West Carter. The Lady Comets come in with a 5-1 record averaging 73.3 points per game. Win or lose, Corbin will play either Boyle County of the 12th region or Clark County of the 10th region. Boyle County comes in 4-0 while Clark County will enter the tournament with a 2-3 record.
The Berea Holiday Classic has become the largest invitational in the state with a 32-team format. There will be 16 teams in Tournament A with Corbin and 16 teams in Tournament B. The two winners will play for the grand championship, Wednesday, December 22.
