Holiday Schedule
Tis the season to watch basketball. Whether it is high school or college basketball, the holiday tournament season has approached and the schedule gets under way this week with the girls’ version of the Cumberland Falls Invitational along with the Bowman Memorial Classic at Lynn Camp. The annual Hoopin’ It Up Holiday Classic will be in London once again hosted by North and South Laurel High Schools.
Bowman Memorial Classic, Dec. 17-21
Four boys teams and four girls team will appear in the annual Bowman Memorial. The action begins Thursday night with the Pineville Lady Lions taking on the Jellico Lady Devils at 5:30; followed by the boys from Harlan and Pineville going head to head at 7:15. The nightcap will find host Lynn Camp taking on Jellico.
Friday night, the Lynn Camp girls will play Bell County at 5:30; followed by the Pineville Lions and the Blue Devils of Jellico. Lynn Camp will host Harlan in the nightcap.
The boys portion of the tournament concludes Saturday with Lynn Camp meeting Pineville at 4 p.m. Harlan will play Jellico at 7:30. The Bell County Lady ‘Cats will play Pineville and the Lynn Camp ladies will meet Jellico at 5:45.
The girls’ final night will be Monday, Dec. 21 when Bell County plays Jellico at 6:00, followed by Pineville vs. Lynn Camp.
Cumberland Falls Invitational
The girls Cumberland Falls Invitational will be three days instead of the traditional four this year. The tournament will begin Saturday with four games. Claiborne County, Tn., will play Middlesboro in the opening game at 12:00 (noon), followed by Somerset taking on Whitley County at 1:45.
The evening session will see Bracken County playing Williamsburg at 6:30, followed by Pendleton County and Corbin. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 8:15.
The losers’ bracket semifinals will be play at 2 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. Sunday with the four first-round winners playing at 6 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.
The tournament will conclude Monday with the seventh place game set for 4:00 p.m., fourth place at 5:45 and the consolation game at 7:30. The championship game is scheduled for 9:15.
Hoopin’ It Up Classic
The Hometown Bank Hoopin’ It Up Classic will begin play Saturday at North and South Laurel High Schools. Whitley County and Williamsburg will both being in the same bracket at North Laurel. The Colonels will play Anderson County at 6:30 while Coach Patrick Robinson will play North Laurel at 8:15.
The Whitley County-Anderson County winner takes on Louisville Pleasure Ridge Park at 6:30 Sunday while the Williamsburg-North Laurel picture will take on Pulaski Southwestern at 8:15 Sunday.
The other six teams in the field are Bell County, Knox Central, Science Hill, Tenn., South Laurel, Fleming County and Barbourville.
The championship game is scheduled for North Laurel at 8:15, December 22.
Black Bear Classic
Corbin will play the first week of the holidays in Harlan County. They will be one of five teams in the Third Annual Black Bear Classic. Corbin, Harland County, Lawrence County, Letcher Central and Pike Central will play in the three-day classic.
Six games will be play Monday, December 21 with Harlan County taking on Pike Central at 11 a.m.; Corbin meets Lawrence County at 12:30, followed by Breathitt County vs. Letcher Central at 2 p.m.
The afternoon session will see Pike Central playing Corbin at 4 p.m., followed by Lawrence County vs. Breathitt County. Harlan County and Letcher Central meet in the nightcap at 7:00.
Corbin will take on Letcher Central at 3:30 Tuesday. Pike Central meets Lawrence County at 2 p.m. with Harlan County vs. Breathitt County at 5 p.m.
Wednesday’s final day will find Letcher Central and Pike Central on the floor at 2 p.m., followed by Corbin vs. Breathitt County. The final game will be Harlan County vs. Lawrence County.
