Hawgs and Hogs BBQ and Bike Show set for Saturday
If you enjoy riding motorcycles, eating good barbeque or both while helping a family in need, then you might want to turnout at the Williamsburg Fire Department on Saturday, Aug. 14, for the Hawgs & Hogs BBQ and Bike Show.
The event is a fundraiser for the family of Williamsburg High School sophomore Nick Rainwater.
“He has just been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. We just found out his is more of a Leukemia,” said Cindy Todd, who is one of the event organizers.
“We are raising money for his family. With COVID-19 a lot of the places that used to donate like gas cards and all that, they are not doing a whole lot. We are trying to help the family get back and forth to Lexington for treatment, and helping them get their bills paid because mom is not able to work right now.”
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a cancer that starts in white blood cells called lymphocytes, which are part of the body’s immune system, according to cancer.org.
The show will be held at the Williamsburg Fire Department from 4 – 6 p.m.
There are two meal options. You can get a barbeque sandwich or two chili dogs, plus chips and a drink for $5.
In addition, several local bakers including Mad Hatters Sweats, Crystal’s Cupcakes, and Alicia’s Treats are all donating desserts that will be sold.
Several businesses have donated items to be raffled off.
“We also have a hand built cedar porch swing that has been donated that we are raffling off as well,” Todd said.
At 6:15 p.m., there will be a blessing of the bikes by Rev. Gerald Mullins, and there will be a kickstand start for an awareness ride for Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma at 6:30 p.m.
The ride will go up US25W to Corbin, cross over on the Corbin bypass, and then will travel back to Williamsburg on Highway 26.
Todd said that she and her husband, Jimmy Todd, have helped organize other fundraisers in the past and always seem to do really well with bike shows.
Their previous most successful ride had about 24 participants, but Todd said that she is expecting to have closer to 50 people for this event.
“I hope we get as many as are saying they are going to come,” she added.
There is no monetary goal for the event.
