“I told the girls back at the start of the season I was 15 games away from the 100th win of my career. This team is really special and I would like for them to help me reach my 100th win, especially this season,” Hart said.
“Being as young as we are I didn’t know if we would be able to do that or not,” he said. “But, they have really responded and we picked it up last night, it was a great night, it was special and the girls played really hard. After the game we released 100 balloons that they brought out to the field, one for every victory that I have had.”
It was also another special night for daughter, Hannah, who threw her second no-hitter of the season. “She had three days off which she really needed. She has pitched 26 games this season and the three days off allowed her to rest a little bit,” Hart said. “She came back really strong and pitched really well. She came close to a perfect game, but threw a no-hitter which made my 100th win even more special.”
The Lady Redhounds (17-10) scored seven runs in the bottom of the first. A pitch to lead off the inning hit Sarah Woolums. Freshmen Callie Schoolcraft and Katie Bernardo followed with singles to load the bases. An infield fly by Whitley Gatliff left the Redhounds with runners on each base.
Kelly Farley pounced on a Pineville pitch for a single and drove in Woolums. That opened the floodgate as Hart, Lindsey Barton, Bethany Hensley drove in runs to put the Lady Redhounds, 7-0.
Corbin added six runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game away. Hensley led off the inning with a double and finished off the inning with a ground out to third. Hensley, Hannah Helm, Woolums, Bernado, Gatliff and Farley all scored for Corbin to push the Redhounds ahead, 13-0.
Hart walked Blake Sanders in the top of the first. She was the only Pineville runner to reach base.
Hart got a chance to look at some upcoming talent in the second game as freshman Christian Carpenter took the mound for the Redhounds. She gave up three hits in the top of the first and one Pineville runner scored, but she settled down and allowed only one runner in the final four innings.
Hart, Woolums and Farley led the Corbin offense with two runs each, Hart was three-for-three with two triples and a double while Woolums was two-for-three at the plate with a pair of doubles. Sydney Reynolds was two-for-three at the play as well.
Corbin will host Bell County Thursday and travel to 12th ranked North Laurel Friday.
