Williamsburg’s Haley Harris was crowned Miss NIBROC Saturday by 2014 Miss NIBROC Hayley Abbott.
Oh, what a night Saturday was for Haley Ann Harris of Williamsburg, who was crowned Miss NIBROC 2015.
Harris, the daughter of John and Erica Harris, and 2015 graduate of Williamsburg High School, won the evening gown and swimsuit competitions, which account for 70 percent of the scoring. In addition, Harris was honored with the Alexandra J. Hamilton Congeniality Award, which is awarded based on a vote by the contestants.
The award, named in memory of 2012 contestant Alexandra J. Hamilton who was killed in a car crash just a few months before she was to graduate from Whitley County High School, is awarded to the contestant the girls feel is the most congenial, helpful, compatible with others, and all around best peer.
“We had a great week together,” Harris said of the time spent with the 11 other contestants from across the Tri-County area that participated in numerous events together, including the teas hosted by the The Ossoli Club and the Corbin Garden Club.
Harris said her fondest memories come from the time she spent together with the other contestants, especially the multiple dance practices for the opening number of the pageant.
“We always had a really good time and everyone was helpful to each other, and we just goofed off and we laughed together,” Harris said. “There may have been a few tears here and there that we shed together but, overall, it was just a really great week and we had a great time together.”
Harris’ prize package includes: A $10,000 scholarship from the University of the Cumberlands, a $1,500 scholarship from Eastern Kentucky University, a $750 scholarship courtesy of Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Corbin, a keepsake tiara courtesy of Creative Touch Jewelers, a queen’s pin, bracelet, picture frame, and title banner courtesy of Gail Frederick, $150 from L&N Federal Credit Union, $100 from O’Neil Lawson Funeral Home, fashion jewelry from Maggie J’s, a membership to Baptist Health Family Fitness, a queen’s silver disc courtesy of Creative Touch Jewelers, a portrait package from Hart Photography, a designer gift bag filled with products from Salon Envy, and a dozen long stem red roses courtesy of Corbin Flower Shop.
