Hair extensions, television, karaoke speaker among items landlady admits to stealing from tenants during burglary
A Keavy woman was arrested Friday for allegedly burglarizing her own rental property, taking more than $15,000 worth of items from her tenants.
Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Sandra K. Lovins, 34, on charges of second-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking of the value of $500 or more but less than $10,000, and tampering in physical evidence in connection with the theft of the items from the residence off of West City Dam Road on April 29.
Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, stated the items included a large smart TV, a suitcase, a karaoke speaker, and hair extensions.
“Allegedly, the landlord stated she had taken the property until she received past due rent,” Acciardo stated.
While deputies recovered the hair extensions from Lovins’ residence, Acciardo stated that she admitted to deputies that she had given the TV away, and threw the suitcase and speaker into a ditch along the roadway.
Lovins is being held in the Laurel County Correctional Center on a $15,000 cash bond.
She has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is scheduled to return to Laurel District Court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is probable cause to present the case to a Laurel County grand jury.
