Grimes bus tour makes stop in downtown Corbin Monday

U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes, above left, speaks with retired teacher Frankie Ball, of Williamsburg, during a rally held Monday at Sander’s Park in downtown Corbin.
With multiple polls showing a tight race just over a week before the election, U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes met with supporters at Sanders Park in Corbin as part of a campaign swing through southeastern Kentucky Monday.
Grimes, who currently serves as Kentucky’s secretary of state, is trying to unseat Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), a 30-year senate veteran who is making a bid for his sixth term.
Grimes told the more than 100 people in attendance that while many people consider the worse day in American history to be the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, in McConnell’s mind, the worse day in Washington, D.C. was the day campaign finance reform was passed.
“We can make Mitch McConnell’s worse day yet on November 4,” Grimes said. “Are you all ready to fight?”
Grimes reminded the crowd that McConnell has consistently blocked attempts to advance legislation that would make investments in manufacturing education, infrastructure and other critical areas.
“He says give him another six years but he won’t lay out any agenda,” Grimes said of McConnell. “Do you know why? Because its not for me and not for you. It’s bought and paid for by the millionaires and billionaires. The only person Washington is working for is Mitch McConnell.”
Grimes added that during a fundraiser with the Koch brothers in California, McConnell told them that if is re-elected there will be no debate or vote on raising the minimum wage, to extend unemployment benefits, or to help alleviate student loan debt.
“He called all of those proposals, ‘Gosh-darned proposals,’” Grimes said of McConnell.
Grimes blamed McConnell for the gridlock in Washington and said returning McConnell to the Senate would result in more gridlock.
Grimes promised to work with Democrats and Republicans to increase the minimum wage, close the gender pay gap, and strengthen and protect Medicare and Social Security.
“That’s my plan,” Grimes said, “Will you help me fight for it?”
Grimes told the crowd that McConnell had spent $51 million in an effort to retain his seat, asking if they would be bought.
When the crowd responded, “No,” Grimes told them that they need to send that message to McConnell.
“Come November 4 Mitch McConnell, you are going to hear those famous words from Donald Trump,” Grimes said. “You’re fired!
Grimes concluded by telling the crowd, whether Republican, Democrat or Independent, you are a Kentuckian. After 30 years of McConnell in Washington, the state and the people deserve better.
“Together we can tell the millionaires and billionaires that Kentucky won’t be bought,” Grimes said. “We can tell them we are finally ready to get Washington working for us.”

Alison and Barack Obama wants to bankrupt the coal industry, flood our nation with illegal workers competing for jobs with out of work Americans, to destroy national pride in favor of an international apology, and to fundamentally transform our nation built on faith in God into a nation that looks to government for blessings. Go ahead if this is want you want vote Alison.
The Grimes campaign is a mirror image of Obama’s: blame the predecessor, hide your true loyalties and get people to vote for making a dangerous change in direction by calling it “historic”.
Grimes campaign is grounded in the firm belief that voters are dumb. Dumb enough to let her get by without answering questions, dumb enough to not see that she is running the same kind of campaign Obama did, and dumb enough to expect different results. Don’t be fooled again!

I am a Democrat for Mitch. I look at this picture in the paper and it tells me a story. I see 27 people coming out to hear a candidate for U.S. Senate. Kentucky has a population of 4,339,367 and Whitley County has 36,000. I can say Alison must have a few people that came along with her to this event. I can see Alison had a big group of 27 show up “she will not even be in the running”. Just why do you think Alison has not asked the President to appear with her in Kentucky or Corbin? We all know Alison has always supported Obama. I understand she would like us to think other wise. I may be from Kentucky Alison but I’m not as stupid as you would think Vote Coal not Alison!
Name one thing the republicans / tea party has done for southeastern Kentucky? Democrats social security, medicare, medicaid, ACA (KYnet)
unemployment insurance I could keep going. The list is actions done to help people. Just like Jesus would do.
We HAVE BEEN in a world of hurt since McConnel has been in office. 30 Years……nothing done…..time for change……
We will all be in a world of hurt if Grimes does get into the senate.
