Greed will be our down-fall!
The first memories I have of realizing what greed is all about takes me back to when I was a young boy. I can think back to days spent at my grandparents house here in Corbin, before my family made the permanent move to the Bluegrass state, and some of the things my granfather use to tell me about being greedy. When it came to food, he was the kind of guy that would feed anyone that was hungry, but if you take more than you could eat, he would also let you know about it in a hurry. The point was to not be wasteful. As I got older I realized how a lot of people are very wasteful and some of them even greedy. One of my favorite signs in any restaurant are the ones that you can find in almost any chinese or japanese place. This may not be the exact wording, but it goes something like “take what you want, but eat what you take.” That’s a pretty good creed to live by if you think about. Why take it if you don’t need it, especially if someone else could make use of it somewhere down the line. This brings me to my point. We all know gas prices are down right now, which means smiles for all that drive. As I pulled into my favorite station today (Wednesday), you can imagine the pleasure I felt seeing the price had fallen to $1.89 a gallon. “Great” was my initial thought, but once I pulled in my mood changed. Why, you say. Because in front of me in line was not one, but two pickup trucks with four 50 gallon drums in the back of each truck. With further investigation, I realized the men in those trucks were about to go bug-nuts over gas. That’s right, they filled them up and if I am counting, that would be about 200 gallons each, not counting what they put in their vehicles. Of course, I didn’t wait around until they were done, but you can bet I made a few comments as I was standing outside my car talking to the attendant. These are the type of actions that will drive the price of gas back up, and that’s pretty much what I told those fellows. Oh well, I am done ranting here. My only hope is that the price of gas falls to around $1 a gallon so that those guys realize they didn’t get such a great deal after all. Maybe next time they won’t be so greedy. I really do think it will bve our down-fall eventually. By the way, I hope everyone likes our new Website. It is still a work in progress, but we are trying.
