Gray woman extricated from car following Thursday wreck

A Gray woman had to be extricated from her car Thursday after it rear-ended a tractor-trailer truck on U.S. 25E near Lynn Camp High School.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Shane Jacobs, public affairs officer at Post 10 in Harlan identified the driver of the car as 59-year-old Leslie Fallis.

West Knox firefighters were called to the scene about 11:10 a.m. in response to a report of a two-vehicle wreck involving a car and a commercial truck.

Firefighter used the Jaws-of-Life to get Fallis out of the vehicle.

West Knox Fire Chief Daryl Baker said Fallis’ Chevrolet Malibu struck the rear end protection bar designed to lower riding vehicles from going underneath the back of the trailer should a collision occur.

“She hit corner of the trailer and that tore up the car,” Baker said.

Baker said Fallis was conscious and talking to emergency personnel was they worked to extricate her.

Fallis was taken by ambulance to Baptist Health Corbin.

Jacobs said the driver of the truck was not injured in the collision.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected factors in the collision.

Trooper Jay Sowders is continuing the investigation.

Trooper Russell Maynard, Trooper First Class Jacobs, Detective Josh Bunch and Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith assisted at the scene.
