Gray teen killed as he tries to cross U.S. 25E
A Gray teen was killed Thursday night when two cars hit him as he tried to run across U.S. 25E just north of Barbourville.
According to Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer Shane Jacobs Shane Curtis Smith, 14 was trying to cross the southbound lanes of the highway when he was hit by a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt and thrown into the emergency lane. A 2002 trying to avoid the initial collision ended up hitting Smith.
A member of the Knox County Coroner’s Office pronounced Smith dead at the scene.
Jacobs said no one in either of the vehicles was injured.
KSP Det. Mike Cornett is continuing the investigation.
Barbourville Police, Barbourville Fire Department and the Kentucky Department of Highways assisted at the scene.
