Gray man charged with attempted murder of police officer

A Knox County man has been charged with attempted murder of a police officer after state police say he shot law enforcement that had arrived at his residence to investigate an assault complaint Monday morning.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Shane Jacobs, Public Affairs Officer at Post 10 in Harlan, said officers arrested Jason Marsee, 47, of Gray, at a residence on Ky. 930 in the Hymar community on charges of the attempt murder of a police officer, first-degree wanton endangerment, menacing, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, possession/use of a radio that sends/receives police messages, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Trooper Sidney Wagner was accompanied by Knox County Sheriff’s deputies in responding to the complaint.

“After knocking and identifying themselves as officers, a female looked out the bedroom window then quickly closed the blinds at which time Mr. Marsee fired eight rounds with a .22 caliber rifle through the side of the house where Tpr. Wagner was standing nearly striking him,” Jacobs stated.

Wagner stated in the arrest citation that two of the rounds struck a neighboring residence occupied by two individuals.

Marsee came out onto the porch armed with the rifle, throwing it onto the ground.

Officers took Marsee to the ground and secured him in handcuffs.

Inside the residence, Wagner reported finding a video monitor showing two of the police cruisers in the yard, several additional firearms, a police scanner and marijuana.

Marsee was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center where he is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.

Marsee pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment Monday in Knox District Court.
