Grace Health to open medical campus at Corbin Kmart property

Grace Health officials announced plans for a medical campus in Corbin Monday.

Grace Health announced Monday that it has a long-term lease agreement on the former Kmart building in Corbin, and plans to construct a “multi-service” medical campus on the site.

Documents were executed on Monday morning that grant a 35-year lease term to Grace Health.

After renovation, the 84,000-square foot former retail space will be transformed into a state-of-the-art medical campus offering a full range of health care services to include family and internal medicine, pediatrics, behavioral health, case management, a full service pharmacy (with a 340B discount program), laboratory and x-ray services, as well as outreach and health education.

Established in 2008 as a Federally Qualified Health Center, Grace Health is the first Community Health Center to directly serve the southeast Kentucky counties of Bell, Clay, Leslie, Knox and Whitley. With completion of the new medical campus, Grace Health will be providing needed healthcare services to over 38,000 patients through eight medical clinics and 38 school based clinic sites.

Grace Health is an award-winning leader in primary healthcare throughout its service area and has been recognized by its peers as one of the top performing community health centers in the State of Kentucky. Grace Health recently received a perfect score during an August 2017 Operational Site Visit by the Health Resources Service Administration (HRSA). This rare achievement was accomplished by meeting all 19 of 19 Federal Health Center Program requirements. In addition, Grace Health earned six best practice acknowledgements for advances in medical care that improve patient outcomes. Community health centers are individually responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. A perfect score is exemplary in this health care sector.

Responsibility and oversight of the community health center is through a board of directors consisting of health center patients and community leaders. The board provides leadership and guidance to key management and staff in support of the community health center’s mission.
