Golden Family Reunion set for Friday (April 26), Saturday (April 27) in Williamsburg
The Golden Family Reunion will celebrate their 28th year of gathering this year on Friday, April 26, through Saturday, April 27, in Whitley County.
The event will start Friday at 10 a.m. Volunteers are needed to help put up a tent and set up the stage for the pickers and singers at the Old Golden Cemetery at Golden Creek.
From 2 – 4 p.m., the Whitley County Historical and Genealogy Society and Museum will open its doors for reunion attendees.
From 5 – 9:30 p.m., the reunion will meet at the Williamsburg Tourism and Convention Center to share genealogy information, photos, and family stories, etc.
Then on Saturday, the family will gather at Golden’s Creek starting at 8:30 a.m. at the first location and resting place of the first Golden settlers.
There will be a potluck meal at noon, all day socializing, an auction and music, plus lots of family stories and information about the Golden family history. Bring a lawn chair, food to share and an auction item to help support the event.
The descendants of the Golden Family can be traced all the way back to Richard Golden and wife, Mary Frances “Frankie” Lowe, who had seven children, and includes many families scattered throughout the United States. Relatives from Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan, Indiana, Oklahoma and Texas attended last year’s reunion representing five of the seven children’s descendants.
