Glennis Reed Nantz charged in High Top boat ramp robbery, burglaries

About the same time his son was allegedly trying to elude Whitley County Constable Dorman Patrick, Jr. Saturday night, 44-year-old Glennis Reed Nantz was having his own run-in with the law stemming from the burglaries and robbery on Aug. 27 at the High Top boat ramp.

According to Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell, Deputy Brian Hensley had obtained an arrest warrant for Nantz in connection with the incident in which one individual reported being robbed at knifepoint and three vehicles were burglarized.

Hensley, along with Narcotics Detective Derek Eubanks and Deputy Jonas Saunders went to Nantz’s residence on Ky. 6 to serve the warrant charging him with first-degree robbery, theft by unlawful taking from an automobile, theft by unlawful taking of parts from an automobile, first-degree criminal mischief, attempted theft of an automobile and receiving stolen property.

As Detective Eubanks searched Nantz, he reportedly found a small bag containing a crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine along with cash.

“Nantz asked Det. Eubanks to retrieve personal items (shoes) from the residence and in plain view was a digital scale and another bag containing a crystal substance,” Harrell reported, adding that the deputies recovered approximately 3.5 grams (.12 ounces) of the crystal substance.

“Deputy Hensley noticed that Nantz had in his possession a pair of Reebok tennis shoes that matched the description of those taken during the robbery,” Harrell reported.

Hensley also charged Nantz with impersonating a peace officer, noting the robbery victim reported that when the robbers presented themselves as park rangers.

Hensley arrested 20-year-old Isiah Canada on Aug. 27.

Hensley was called to the area off of U.S. 25W about 5:30 a.m. in response to a complaint of a suspicious person.

Hensley initially spoke with a man, later identified as Canada, who claimed ownership of a vehicle in the parking lot. However, as Henlsey continued the investigation, a man approached him, claiming that he had been robbed at knifepoint.

The victim reportedly gave Hensley a description of the robber matching Canada and described the items that were taken, including a cell phone, keys and a his shoes.

In addition, Hensley found fuses from the vehicle’s fuse box on Canada’s person.

Two other people reported their vehicles had been burglarized, with a car battery, another cell phone and jewelry being taken.

Deputy Hensley found the missing items in Canada’s possession.

Canada was charged with first-degree robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed weapon, tampering with physical evidence, attempted theft by unlawful taking of an automobile, first-degree criminal mischief, receiving stolen property of the value under $500 and theft by unlawful taking of auto parts.

Nantz is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.

Canada is being held on a $15,000 cash bond.
