Georgia fugitive arrested after Whitley Co. wreck

David Davis was arrested on a fugitive warrant after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday.

A wreck in southern Whitley County Wednesday afternoon resulted in the arrest of a Georgia fugitive.

When Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Cody Harrell responded to a wreck at the intersection of Hwy. 1804 and US25W Wednesday, he asked the driver of a Chevrolet Monte Carlo for his driver’s license.

David Lee Davis, 45, of Williamsburg, presented a Kentucky identification card but had no driver’s license, according to a sheriff’s department release.

Whitley County E911 then determined Davis was wanted for arrest by Georgia police in connection with a drug-related crime, the release stated.

“Records indicated that Georgia authorities were willing to extradite Davis so he could appear before a Georgia court,” the release stated.

Davis was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center shortly before 6 p.m., and will be returned to Georgia to face charges there.

Neither Davis nor the female driver of the other vehicle face charges related to the wreck. She and Davis were the only occupants of their respective vehicles and neither required medical attention at the scene.

Area volunteer firefighters also assisted at the scene.
