George M. Hackler, Sr.
George M. Hackler, Sr., 73, passed away Friday, March 31, 2017 at his home in Jellico, TN after a brief illness.
He was born August 9, 1943 to the late Martin W. and Hazel (Barton) Hackler in Jellico.
He was a 1961 graduate of Jellico High School, and a graduate of City Barber School of Knoxville. He was a barber in Jellico for more than 30 years and also worked for the railroad in St. Louis, MO for a number of years. He was a member of Tannery Hollow Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Faye (Cox) Hackler; father and mother-in-law, Elbert P. and Myrtle (Hayes) Cox; step-father, Paul J. Jones; paternal grandparents, Lee and China (Williams) Hackler; maternal grandparents, George and Matilda (Green) Barton; paternal great-grandparents, George W. and Sarah Matilda (Davis) Hackler and Herbert and Martha (Nicholson) Williams; maternal great-grandparents, Jim and Mary Elizabeth (Helton) Barton and Josh and Mary (Keck) Green; aunts and uncles, Kate (Hackler) Eades, Martha M. (Hackler) Thomas, Bill Hackler, Ray Hackler, Cindy (Hackler) Lay, Sidney Hackler, Leoma Hackler, Tressie Hackler, Charles Hackler, Ova Hackler, Harold Barton, Olan J. Barton, Edward C. Barton, George Barton, Jr., Jackie Barton, Ted G. Barton and Truitt F. Barton.
He is survived by son, George M. Hackler, II, of Jellico; aunt, Jeanette (Gatliff) Barton, of Jellico; sister-in-law, Wanda Louise (Cox) Lay, of Goshen, OH; step-sister, Patsy (Jones) Smith, of Lexington; nephews and nieces, Karen A. (Rhodes) Okla, Greg Rhodes, Debra K. (Rhodes) Wilson, Tim Lay, Rhonda (Lay) Hall, David Lay, and Cheryl (Lay) Barrett; first cousins, Kathryn (Sister) (Eades) Fox, Betty (Thomas) Fisher, Robert (Bob) Hackler, Martha Rose (Hackler) Chapman, Bill Hackler, Steve Hackler, Lynn Hackler, Ottie R. (Hackler) Davis, China Mae Hackler, Leoma (Hackler) Davenport, Gertie (Hackler) Stephens, William C. (Sonny) Hackler, Harold C. Hackler, Barbara (Hackler) Davenport, Henry S. Hackler, James M. Hackler, John B. Hackler, Eddie W. Barton, Jimmy R. Barton, Francis (Barton) Lewis and Sandee Barton; numerous other family members, neighbors, friends at the Jellico Senior Citizens’ Center whose companionship he enjoyed so much, his beloved dogs, and a host of other friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 8, at 2 p.m. at the Cox & Son Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lester Cox, Rev. E. Wayne Barton, II, Rev. James Hackler and the Rev. Ray Landes officiating.
Friends may call on Friday, April 7, after 6 p.m. at the Cox & Son Funeral Home Chapel.
Musical selections will be provided by Ms. Jenny Bowlin, Mrs. Nancy Bowlin, Mr. Sam Centers, Pastor Brent Foley and Mrs. Betty Hurst.
Pall-bearers will be William H. (Billy) Barton, Jr., James Hackler, Kenny Huddleston, Mike Huddleston, Ron Troxtell and Milton Williamson.
Burial will take place at the Oak Lawn Addition of Pleasant View Cemetery in Whitley County, following the funeral service.
Traditional expressions of sympathy are welcome and will be appreciated.
