Gazebo at Corbin creekwalk damaged over the weekend

The gazebo near the Engineer Street Bridge was damaged by vandals Saturday. Corbin officials are seeking the public’s help to find the perpetrators.
Corbin city officials are asking for the public’s help to identify the individual(s) who vandalized the gazebo at the north end of the Lynn Camp Creek walk at the Engineer Street Bridge Saturday night.
Corbin Public Works Director Gary Kelly said an entire section of the wooden railing that makes up the lower portion of the structure was broken off and taken from the scene.
“I guess they took it with them,” Kelly said adding that from the damage to the support post it appears the individual(s) kicked the railing to break it off the structure.
Kelly said one of the spindles from another section was also taken while another one is cracked and would have to be replaced.
Kelly said Mayor Willard McBurney told him that he drove by the gazebo Saturday evening and noticed a group of 30 to 40 people gathered at the location.
Anyone with any information about the vandalism is asked to contact Corbin Police at 528-1122. Callers may remain anonymous.
Kelly said public works employees would be working to repair the damage.
Kelly estimated the necessary supplies along would cost $150.
“I have no idea why anyone would want to do something like this,” Kelly said.
